Jim Skewis was an active member of Tam until Pancreatic Cancer struck last year. Peter Rebek recently visited him in his home in Pickering and it does not look like he will be returning to curling since the cancer has returned. He lives at 1100 Begley unit 11. This is an excerpt from his son’s email to Peter, extending an invitation to any of his friends at Tam:

As we are not certain how much time we have left. Please come by anytime and extend this visitation to any of his friends at the curling club.

Thanks

miniLooking for “newer” women curlers who want to enhance their understanding of the game!

The Mini Majors is a development-focused tournament with 4 8-end games at different curling clubs in the area. You will rotate through the different team positions – but don’t worry, there will be coaching sessions before each game! There’s also a Finals Day for those who excel in their “section” (there are 4 sections around the GTA).

Who can participate? Women curlers with less than 10 years of experience who play Lead or Second positions in league play. You can participate in the Mini Majors for up to 7 years.

The cost for the four eight-end games, with tea, coffee and snacks before each game, and a lunch after one of the games remains unchanged at $50. There is an additional cost for those who qualify for the Finals Day.

The tentative schedule includes:

  • Monday, November 6 (8:30-11:00 am) at Unionville Curling Club
  • Friday, December 1 at Thornhill Golf & Country Club
  • Monday, January 22, 2024 at Tam Heather Curling

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
