The death notice will be posted with the Bedford Funeral Home Toronto - morleybedford.ca/ where you can leave condolence messages for the family. The obituary notice for Claudette Morrison will be posted on the morley bedford.ca website this week.

Claudette and her husband Ivan (deceased 2010) were long time members of Tam Heather.
Claudette and Ivan Morrison were members of the old Tam O’Shanter club that burned down in October 1971.

By June 1972, 472 members had agreed to purchase debentures towards building a new curling facility. Construction commenced that September and curling began in February 1973 at the Tam Heather Country Club at 730 Military Trail.

Claudette and Ivan were Charter members of the new Tam Heather until the 1990s when they moved away.

The TCA Men's Goldline Curling Championships are back for the 2022/23 season! The "Goldline" will run January 7 – 14, 2023.

We are pleased that Delmanor Inspired Retirement Living and Firehouse Subs are continuing as supporting sponsors.

Some important rule changes this year

    • Given that the Goldline did not run the last 2 seasons, we are providing an exemption for this year’s championships to allow Division winners and runners-up of the 2020 Goldline to reenter the 2023 Goldine with the same lineup.
    • We will also not restrict participants that threw Skip and Vice rocks in the Ontario provincials for the Men’s Curling Club Championship, Senior Men’s, Master Men’s, or in a similar competition in any other jurisdiction, during the last season.

We will continue with the 5 divisions from previous years:

    • Open, age 19+, limited to 64 teams
    • Seniors, age 50+, limited to 64 teams
    • Masters, age 60+, limited to 32 teams
    • Grand Masters, Age 70+, limited to 32 teams
    • Novice, age 19+, limited to 24 teams (see Rules regarding eligibility)

All ages are as of December 31, 2022.

    Entry Fees:

    • Open & Seniors divisions are $150 per team.
    • Masters & Grand Master divisions are $130 per team.
    • Novice division is $130 per team.

Here is some other important information on this year’s Goldline:

    • Once again there will be fewer evening games during the week. All Open and Seniors division teams still alive after Tuesday's game will have a bye on Wednesday evening (Jan 11).
    • In order to try and keep games on schedule on the opening Saturday any games tied after 8 ends will be decided by a draw to the button. This rule applies to the opening Saturday only; all other games will be decided by a full extra end.
    • We will try to advise teams of any Covid restrictions that our individual host clubs may be requiring. However, it is each team’s responsibility to be prepared for any such restrictions.

Register and pay online. All teams must enter and pay online. A link to the online entry site is now available on the TCA Goldline Men’s Championships page on the TCA website. The registration website provides a secure service. All major credit cards are accepted.

    • Please note that the TCA website is new and registration and payment is currently a 2 step process Press one button to register and a 2nd button to pay).
    • Please also note that there is an error on the payment buttons. Novice entries should use the Masters & Grandmasters payment button.

Starting locations and times will be posted on the TCA website by January 4th.

If you have any questions, please visit the TCA website (www.torontocurling.com) for more information. or contact

Tam Heather runs on a bell system in our tennis bubble for all leagues, block bookings, lessons and individual court bookings. The bell will ring at the 55-minute mark every hour.

Players should stop play 5 minutes before the hour. This does not mean finishing the game first. It means STOP playing, exit the playing area, change clothes, pack up your belongings, and vacate the court, all before the top of the hour. 5 minutes should be plenty of time. Players should not still be on the court, playing or picking up balls, or still sitting on the chairs when the hour changes. They should be on their way out of the dome by that time.

Players waiting to play should not start making their way to their court until the clock reaches the hour mark. even if you see that the previous players have vacated and your court is empty. Wait for the hour to change.

    Thanks, Jason

    So, here’s how it works.

Step 1 – Go to the Tam website at www.tamheather.ca and log in using the same Username and Password that you used when you registered for this season.

    icebook.login

Step 2 – Select “Ice Book” from the member menu. This menu item will only be visible to registered curling members.

    icebook.menu

Step 3 – View the Ice Book by clicking on the most current file from the listing. If we’re doing a good job of file maintenance, there should only be one file each day. But, if you see more than one file, just select the first one as that should be the newest version.

    icebook.article

Step 4 – Scroll through the file looking for a date/time that you would like to book.

Step 5 - Close the Ice Book file in order to return to the screen containing the ice request option. This is the Registration section and appears on the same screen as the Ice Book file(s), just further down the screen. Your contact information will be automatically populated from your profile. If any of this information is incorrect, please go to your profile and update it.

Step 6 – Populate all the required fields (i.e. Purpose, Date, Time, Sheet).

If you are requesting ice for a Make-up Game, you will also be prompted for the names of the Teams involved.

There is a “Request Information” section for requesting ice for practice or a make-up game.

There is a “Cancel Information” section further down for cancelling ice you will not be using.

After filling out all the required fields, click the purple “Process Registration” icon at the bottom of the page to submit your request.

    icebook.process

    Additional information:

    • The Ice Book will be updated every day during the week around mid-afternoon. If you want to verify that you got the sheet you requested, please don’t email or phone the office. Just wait for the next version of the Ice Book to appear and you will see your request reflected. You will only be contacted if there is a problem with your request.
    • Practice ice can only be requested up to a maximum of one week in advance of the date being booked. There is no such limit on Make-up games.
    • When requesting a make-up game, you should also cancel the sheet you are rescheduling in order that it be made available to others. This requirement is intended to discourage the practice of requesting multiple sheets in order to present multiple options for your opposition to choose from. In a perfect world of unlimited ice, this would not be an issue. But make-up and practice ice is limited and reserving multiple sheets “on speculation” like this keeps these sheets from being available to others.
    • Be sure to use this process to cancel any sheets you will not be using. Ian doesn’t want to have to reinstate “The Black List” (names of members who repeatedly did not cancel their sheets resulting in the ice being prepped for use and then sitting empty).

    Thanks,
    Jason

    Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
