Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The TCA’s Annual General Meeting was held on October 22nd.  Thanks to all who attended.  The meeting minutes and audited financial statements can be found on the TCA website.

Directors

As discussed at the AGM the TCA is looking to increase the size of the Board.  This is a formal call for TCA club members to nominate individuals to serve on the TCA Board of Directors.  The Board is looking for individuals with interest and experience in communications, sponsorship, event management and administration.  For any questions regarding joining the TCA Board please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

In conjunction with the TCA clubs, the TCA Board of Directors plays a critical role in growing the sport of curling in the Greater Toronto Area.  We need passionate, energetic individuals to help us with our mission.

Any member of a TCA Member Club is eligible to nominate an individual who is a member in good standing of a TCA Member Club.  Additional information regarding the process to nominate a potential Board member is included with this newsletter.

Facility Manager meetings

With Chris Wai, General Manager of The High Park Club joining the Board, the Facility Manager meetings will be restarted.  Chris will be sending out communication on these meetings to garner input on the frequency and potential topics.

Olympic Activation Opportunities

In partnership with Cadillac Fairview, the Canadian Olympic Committee is planning curling activations in nine shopping malls across the country, including three in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).  The goal of the activation is two-fold, to promote curling during the 2026 Olympics and to give local clubs the opportunity to increase participation.

The activation will run from Friday February 6th through Sunday February 22nd at the following Cadillac Fairview locations:

  • Eaton Centre
  • Sherway Gardens
  • Fairview

Cadilac Fairview will be setting up  an Express Rink at each location.  One of the three Express Rinks will be available for the Toronto Curling Association to keep following the event.

Curling Canada is giving local clubs the opportunity to provide volunteers at the activation for:

  • Friday February 6th – Sunday February 8th
  • Thursday February 12th – Sunday February 15th
  • Thursday February 19th – Sunday February 22nd

Clubs will be able to interact with mall goers, hand out promotional material for their club, and ask for contact information for future mailings.  This is a wonderful opportunity to promote our sport and connect with potential future members.

The expectation is that 2 to 3 volunteers would be required throughout the days to work at the booth.  Curling Alberta has already been doing this with great success.

This is a fantastic opportunity for clubs to promote the sport and their club during the Olympics, a time of extremely high interest in curling.  To volunteer, or for more information please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Scotties 2026

The first Scotties to be held in the GTA will soon be here.  The event runs from Friday January 23rd through Sunday February 1st at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre and features 18 of Canada’s best women’s curling teams.

The 2025/2026 curling season has already been incredibly exciting with the recent Olympic Trials in Halifax.  Congratulations to Team Epping who have three GTA curlers and had a very competitive week, just missing the playoffs.

The next major event is the Scotties followed by the Olympics.

How to buy Tickets

The recently renovated Paramount Fine Foods Centre is an exceptional venue to watch curling.  Ticket sales are going well.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased at

https://www.curling.ca/2026scotties/tickets/

Curling Canada has boxes available for sale and also Group Ticket packages where a large contingent of members can get a block of tickets to sit together for a draw, a day of draws etc... If you are interested in a box please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and the TCA will connect you with Curling Canada.

Individual draw tickets for all draws are now available for sale.

Volunteers – NOW FULL

We want to thank the almost 400 volunteers who have signed up.  The volunteer portal is now closed.  An event of this magnitude can’t run efficiently without the dedicated effort of the volunteers, and we have a great crew eagerly awaiting the start of the event.  A big shoutout to TCA clubs, who make up 2/3rd of the volunteers with the Dixie Curling Centre leading the way with 66 volunteers followed the Mississaugua Golf and Country Club with 53 volunteers.

Scotties Sponsorship

There are still sponsorship opportunities.  The sponsorship opportunities include gas for the transportation fleet, SUVs for the transportation fleet, and food and beverages for the volunteer and player lounges.  If you have any members interested in learning about sponsorship opportunities contact This email address is being protected from spambots. ON BEHALF OF THE TCA, WE WISH ALL GTA CURLERS AND YOUR FAMILIES A HEALTHY AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!

Manager’s Christmas Message 2025

‘Twas the end of the year at Tam 2025,
With Curlers and Tennis folks eager to thrive,
Gathering with friends after one joyful year,
And welcoming new members with warm holiday cheer.

The Curling arena shone clearly and bright,
New LEDs lights sparkling with glowing light.
At the home end- fresh carpet, plus a patio so grand,
Proud upgrades that showcase our Tam-Heather brand.

And out on the courts rose a dome new and tall,
A shelter for tennis- winter, spring, summer and fall.
Tedlar coating now guarding from collapse or from crack,
We cheer a loud “Hallelujah!”- there’s no looking back!

Both Tennis and Curling memberships are high,
With a Tennis membership wait list as tall as the sky,
A sign of our spirit, our growth, and good name,
At Tam Heather we’re proud of our wide-reaching fame.

In January, our curlers are set to ignite,
As the TCA Goldline brings thrills of delight.
We’re hosting the Masters and Grand Masters- what a feat!
Friday January 16th is when the champions compete.

Our Fun Day returns on January 31st morn,
With Women vs. Men- a tradition proudly reborn.
Our third round of laughter, of teamwork and play—
More details will follow to brighten your day.

With so much on the horizon at our Tam Heather,
It’s fitting we pause to applaud all who make it better,
My thanks to the ones who each season step up,
and support all the activities taking place at our club.

The Women’s Section dazzled us with décor so bright,
Turning the lounge into a beautiful festive delight.
Garlands and sparkle in every nook laid,
A magical atmosphere joyfully made.

Our Board and the Tam Team, so steady and true,
Help guide us each season in all that we do.
With members like you in our warm winter mix,
We’re set for a strong year in 2026.

And watch for Tam Swag as the new year begins,
Great gear for the rink or the court when one wins.
For last-minute gifting, the Pro Shop’s the place,
Find your holiday treasures in one friendly space.

So here’s to the holidays, joyful and bright,
May peace fill your days and warmth grace your night.
With gratitude as deep as the snow’s gentle cheer,
Happy holidays to all, and a wonderful New Year!

With warm regards,
Jason Leneeuw, Manager

Christmas Craft and Bake Sale Bonspiel Recap

ccnbs banner

The Women’s Curling Section hosted our annual Christmas Craft and Bake Sale Bonspiel on Saturday, November 29. It was a very successful day with a full draw of 64 curlers dressed up in their favourite festive attire.

The club was decorated for Christmas by the WCS and was alive with Curlers, Tam members and friends purchasing from a vast variety of items at our Bake Sale and impressive display from our Craft Vendors. Thank you to everyone who donated baked goods/jams/pickles and more as well as everyone who purchased these delicious items. An amazing total of $2,128 was raised to support the bonspiel and the WCS. Thank you to Arlene and all your volunteers.

ccnbs pic 1 ccnbs pic 2

The curlers started their day with a tribute to Curling Legend Colleen Jones (65), who passed away earlier in the week. We watched a CBC Presentation highlighting her life and curling career. We celebrated her accomplishments, raising the profile of curling for women and being an inspiration to accomplish great things in life.

We collected donations for the Scarborough Food Security Initiative. Our curlers donated a total of 9 large bags of food items and $245 in cash donations. They were very grateful to receive this generous donation.

Tam Heather Curling club is diligently adhering to all AGCO Regulations, therefore, we are no longer holding our usual Raffle Table and 50/50 Draws. Nevertheless, we did have a Door Prize table with a wonderful display of donated items from our WCS curlers and Vendor donations. Thank you everyone.

At our Great White North Bonspiel in March, we will be having a Silent Auction and are currently looking for donations that would support this fundraising event. If you are interested please contact WCS Bonspiel Coordinator, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Bonspiel Winners 2025

ccnbs winners

Our winners of the Bonspiel was the Sandra Gay team with Val Nash, Sue Sedor and Pat Stevens. Their Grinch themed outfits must have intimidated their opposition, all in good fun and enjoyment for the day.

Our Bonspiel success was truly due to the dedicated volunteers who helped in every part of the day. We welcome any new volunteers that are interested in joining this wonderful group of women.

Thank you to Nancy Mills, Ann McDonald, Jo Anne Seeley, Karen Sutherland, Nancy Meharg, Janet Alexander, Nancy Killey, Sandra Gay, Laurie Robinson, Marguerite Allen, Donna Varley, Karen Smith, Susan Ainley, Leili Marubashi and of course, Arlene Klinck and her 9 volunteers throughout the day at the Bake Sale tables.

Your Bonspiel Coordinator,

Carol Rhynas

Toronto Police Auxiliary Toy Drive

Hello Tam Members,

As we head into the holiday season, we’re proud to support a remarkable community initiative — the Toronto Police Auxiliary Toy Drive, now in its 32nd year.

This Toy Drive began after its founder, Carrie Malin (Rouge Valley League Curler), saw a heartbreaking news story about families living in motels along Kingston Road who simply couldn’t afford Christmas gifts for their children. What started as an effort to help 750 children has now grown to supporting over 3,000 kids each year across Scarborough.

The Toy Drive provides for children from newborn to age 18 through shelters, community organizations, families escaping violence, and those identified by Neighbourhood Community Officers who know where the need is greatest. Donations of new, unwrapped toys or cash are used to ensure every age group is covered—so no child is left out.

Given the current economic challenges, the need is expected to be significant again this year. If you’re able, we invite you to join us in supporting this wonderful cause and helping bring holiday joy to children who need it most.

There is a box located in the lower level hallway for donations.

Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity this season.

Important Update: New Bell Time for All Tam Heather Leagues

Dear Tam Heather Curlers,

As many of you know, over the past season we’ve been discussing and learning more about pace of play. Our goal remains to keep games moving at a steady pace—targeting 15-minute ends—to ensure as many ends as possible are played while allowing our ice technicians enough time to prepare the ice for the next draw.

With this in mind, the Curling Committee has approved a change to our league bell time for the upcoming season:

  • New Bell Time: 30 minutes before the end of the draw (previously 25 minutes)
  • Rule: Teams may finish the end they are in and then play one additional end, as before
  • When does an end of curling officially end at Tam?
An end is officially complete once the Vices from both teams agree on the score. If this agreement occurs before the bell rings, you may play another end and one additional end.
  • Starting your game: Once both hacks are in place and the scoreboard has been cleared, you may begin your game. For Sheets D and E, if the Ice Techs are cleaning the ice nippers, you do not need to wait for them to finish before starting your game.

Please see the Pace of Play infographics below for full details and tips on keeping games moving smoothly. You may also download a PDF copy HERE.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we’re looking forward to another great season on the ice!

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
