A Message from the General Manager

Dear Tam Heather Curling and Tennis Members,

As we wrap up another fantastic season and look forward to the vibrant summer months ahead, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome to our newest members. Whether you joined us for curling this winter or are gearing up for tennis this summer, we’re thrilled to have you as part of the Tam Heather community.

To our curling members, thank you for your dedication, energy, and sportsmanship throughout the season. It has been an incredible time on the ice, filled with exciting games, memorable moments, and the camaraderie that makes Tam Heather feel so special. As the curling season comes to a close, we hope you’ve enjoyed the experience and look forward to welcoming you back next year as we continue to grow and strengthen our curling community.

To our tennis members, we’re gearing up for an exciting summer! With our courts ready for action, we can’t wait to welcome you to a season filled with fun, fitness, and friendly competition. Whether you're new to the game or a seasoned player, there’s a place for you at Tam Heather. We’re excited to offer a variety of programs and leagues, to keep things fresh and engaging all season long.

Looking ahead, we’re pleased to share that the Tam Tennis dome is scheduled for replacement later this year. The City is working with The Farley Group, the team behind our current bubble, and we’ll keep you updated on the timeline as more details become available. Additionally, we’ll be renovating the back deck, which collapsed in February during the snowstorms. The existing structure, over 30 years old, will be replaced with a small walkout featuring stairs leading to ground level and a cozy patio with seating for members to enjoy when the weather permits.

On the curling side, we’ve been exploring upgrades to our arena lighting. We recently tested an LED fixture and were very pleased with the results. The full arena light replacement is scheduled for August, ensuring that when you return to the ice, you’ll be playing under bright, modern lighting—no more excuses for missing the broom or the rocks in the house!

Tam Heather is more than just a place to play sports—it’s a community where friendships are made, memories are created, and everyone has a chance to belong. If you’re new, don’t hesitate to introduce yourself and make the most of the opportunities here. The “Tam Fam” welcomes you! If you have any questions, ideas, or need guidance on getting involved, my door is always open.

A final thank you goes out to our incredible Board of Directors, the hardworking Tam Team, and our fantastic kitchen duo, Damiano and Neil. Your dedication behind the scenes makes Tam Heather the wonderful place it is, and we are truly grateful for everything you do.

We look forward to seeing you on the courts this summer and back on the ice next season!

Jason Leneeuw
General Manager

Heitage Bonspiel Community Support

Hello Tam Curlers,

Following the Heritage Sea Cruise ‘travels’ with us at Tam Heather in late January, we wanted to share the impact of your generosity.

Thanks to your contributions, we raised $1,300 in support of a local food bank. Since then, our Heritage Committee worked closely with the local Rotary Club, Police Department, and the food bank network to identify the facility in greatest need within our community, along with their essential food requirements.

Based on professional recommendations, we used the funds to directly purchase items from their priority list rather than donating cash. By taking advantage of sales and making strategic bulk purchases, we stretched every dollar to maximize the impact. We even sourced specialty foods tailored to the dietary needs of the recipients.

We’re happy to report that the mission—your mission—was completed last week! The ‘Sea Cruise’ cargo—a full truck and four SUVs packed with food—was delivered to those in need, donated under the name of the Tam Heather Curling Heritage Bonspiel and the many generous players who made it possible.

It truly took a ‘village’ of curling enthusiasts to support another ‘village’ in need, and every participant in the 2025 Sea Cruise Spiel played a vital role.

Thank you for being part of this incredible effort!

With heartfelt appreciation,
Your Heritage Sea Cruise Crew

P.S. A few selected photos are attached—you’ll even spot a few uniformed recruits who stepped in to show their community support (and help carry some hefty sacks of veggies and potatoes!).

8 Ender at Tam Heather

Today at Tam Heather during the Thursday morning Tag Draw, Barb Fernandez put together a team that no one could guess what was going to transpire. The first 4 ends of the game were back and forth, taking 4 points and then giving back 4 points. The game was tied until the 5th end. Blue rocks were adding up in the house (6) with only one yellow guard out front. The excitement mounted but kept contained as anything could happen. Unfortunately, the yellow rock Skip missed a take-out and the blue rock skip put another one in.

The yellow rock Skip threw her last shot, a beautiful and courageous draw right to the back four foot, half buried, sitting 2nd shot. A decision had to be made by the blue rock Skip to try and hit it out, avoiding the jam and keeping the shooter from rolling out. “Whatever happens, happens”.

The blue rock Skip settled into the hack, thinking of Rachel Homan with her confidence and concentration to make the shot needed. Even though the skips heart was racing and pounding out of her chest, she delivered the rock, her sweepers keeping the line, hit the yellow rock out and the rock stayed, scoring 8 points!!

It was an exciting moment, fellow curlers stopped to watch and cheered the outcome. The yellow team was very supportive, though very difficult to be on the other end, but were gracious and happy for us all. The last end was played and yellow rocks took 2 points, ending on a good note.

Congratulations to the Blue Rock Team;

  • Carol Rhynas – Skip
  • Jo-Anne Seeley – Vice
  • Mary Fitzgerald – Second
  • Pat McLane – Lead

Great curling ladies, it was a pleasure to curl with you.

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
