Hello Tam Fam,

The first day of the Team Tam Heather vs. Team Barbados challenge is in the books — and what a start! Team Tam Heather is currently leading 4–0 after Day 1.

We encourage everyone to come out and show your support! There are still two exciting nights of tennis ahead, with matches starting at 7:00 PM tonight and again on Friday evening.

It has been a pleasure hosting Team Barbados here at Tam Heather. The camaraderie, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit have been incredible, and we hope this friendly rivalry continues for years to come.

Recovered Locker Room Benches

What do the following make?

  • 3 sessions
  • 6 hours
  • 11 volunteers
  • 1000 staples (+ fabric)

8 newly covered benches for the women’s and men’s change rooms!

Maybe you noticed but our benches were looking a bit tired.  The vinyl was cracking and flaking off.  Not to mention that when you put things on the benches they tended to slide onto the floor.  We decided that recovering would make them look better as well as be more serviceable.

Session 1:

  • Remove the old vinyl and staples
  • We chiseled off the old gum while we were at it!
  • Carol added some new screws to make the benches sturdier!

Session 2:

  • Cut, cover and staple the new fabric onto the benches.
  • Pay special attention to the corners
  • 5 benches completed!

Session 3

  • Complete the last 3 benches in record time
  • Return the benches to the change room
  • Congratulate each other on a job well done!

A little upholstery humour:

A man was shot nearly 200 times with an upholstery gun.  The good news is the doctors say he is now fully recovered.

Many thanks to our fabulous crew that included:

Carol Rhynas, Sandra Becker, Catherine Gray, Sue Sedor, Laurie Robinson, Anne Jackson,

Lynn Sartor, Susan Ainsley, Diane Kerr, Chris Kerr and Bev Styba

Thank you for your support!

A BIG THANK YOU!! to all the members from Tam Heather who donated to my "Bike for Brain Health" ride. We rode Sunday June 1 along the Gardiner and Don Valley Parkway and it was a great success thanks to YOU!

With your generous donations online and in "the jar", I was able to raise $4,000 for this wonderful cause, of which the 'Tam Fam' members contributed $1,000! Our team raised a total of $16,000 for this worthy charity and words can't begin to express our gratitude for your support!! And thanks to our captain Stacie, who did a great job putting this team together.

I want to acknowledge all the wonderful volunteers that helped make this great event happen today. It would not have been possible without them. A special shout-out to our friends Keith and Cheryl for their volunteer efforts.

Again - thank you TAM FAM your support!

Tony

Lost Ring

Dear Tam Heather Club Team,

I’m reaching out with the hope that you might be able to help me recover something very precious.

On the evening of May 17th, between 6:00 and 8:00 PM, I was playing tennis on Court 4. After I left, I realized I had lost a Cartier ring—a simple yet deeply meaningful piece of jewelry that once belonged to my late grandmother. I believe I left it on the white plastic chair by the wall on that court.

This ring holds immense sentimental value to me. It’s not just a piece of jewelry—it’s a part of my grandmother’s memory that I carry with me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any assistance you can offer.

Warm regards,
Elaine Wang

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
