miniLooking for “newer” women curlers who want to enhance their understanding of the game!

The Mini Majors is a development-focused tournament with 4 8-end games at different curling clubs in the area. You will rotate through the different team positions – but don’t worry, there will be coaching sessions before each game! There’s also a Finals Day for those who excel in their “section” (there are 4 sections around the GTA).

Who can participate? Women curlers with less than 10 years of experience who play Lead or Second positions in league play. You can participate in the Mini Majors for up to 7 years.

The cost for the four eight-end games, with tea, coffee and snacks before each game, and a lunch after one of the games remains unchanged at $50. There is an additional cost for those who qualify for the Finals Day.

The tentative schedule includes:

  • Monday, November 6 (8:30-11:00 am) at Unionville Curling Club
  • Friday, December 1 at Thornhill Golf & Country Club
  • Monday, January 22, 2024 at Tam Heather Curling
  • Finals Day is Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Leaside Curling Club

Good News. Tam Heather is going to have the vendor sale at our Women’s Christmas bonspiel on November 18th.

I know this is late notice but was wondering if anyone would like a table to sell your wonderful products. This has always been my favourite part of the bonspiel and I’m glad that we are reinstating this great tradition.

Please email me and let me know if you would like a table. The cost of the table this year will be $15. We will be advertising the vendor sale on the sign outside the curling club and will need at least 10 table to make this event happen.

If you know of anyone else in your crafting community that would be interested in this event, feel free to forward my email to them.

Please contact me by October 23rd if you are interested. Email me if you have any questions.

I’m looking forward to see all of you again and purchasing some great gifts.

Thanks
Vicki Shaw

"The beginning & end of both a game & a curling season are the most common time for injuries to occur"

With a little bit of preparation before the season, and before each game you have the opportunity to lower this risk. This document is going to provide you with some resources to help you over the next few weeks heading into your season starts, to help make getting into the hack, sliding on the ice, and brushing your rocks more comfortable and enjoyable.

Preparation for the 2023 - 2024 curling season is underway. The Men's curling season begins Thanksgiving week.

Men's Skip's Entry

At this moment, we have 44 registered Skip's Entry teams. Skip's Entry is our competitive league playing on Monday and Thursday nights. Don Fawthrop is our Skip's Entry Drawmaster.

Men's Rated

We have 82 curlers registered for our Men's Rated league. That's enough for 20 teams with two curlers on the wait list. Rated has three distinct draws of 7 games each on Tuesday nights. Steve Hawkshaw, the Rated Drawmaster, assembles the teams from the curlers who sign up each draw. Rated is a less competitive league where curlers of all skill levels are encouraged to play.

Men's Draft Night Thursday September 28th at 7:00 pm at Tam

Our Men's Draft Night is happening this coming Thursday the 28th of September at Tam Heather starting at 7:00 pm. This is your chance to get together with your curling friends, meet some of the new members and get ready for the new season. Everyone is welcome. The bar will be open.

If you're looking for a team or know someone who's considering playing in Skip's Entry, please come to Draft Night, or you can reply to this email. We especially need front end players. If you're trying to fill out your team roster, you should have a member of your team attend.

The Tam Heather Men's Website

The Men's Section has it's own website. It can be found at www.tamheathermens.ca. There you will find loads of information including the Rated and Skip's Entry schedules once they are published.

The Men's Committee will be keeping you fully informed about the 2023-2024 season through emails such as this and postings to the website.

Thanks for curling with us. See you at the club.
Bill Smalley for the Men's Section Committee

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
