Return to Curling Tips 2024

If we haven’t crossed paths before, my name is Stephanie Thompson and I am a curling specific fitness trainer, movement therapist and high performance coach. I’ve put together this pre-curling prep PDF for the Tam Heather membership. Don’t worry, it’s completely free!

I sent out a very similar document last year that you might have received. There are some subtle edits to this one but I do hope you enjoy!

Why? Most injuries happen at the beginning and the end of a season, game or shot. My goal is to make sure that curlers everywhere have access to a few things within their control to help make that transition back on to the ice as comfortable as possible.

Who is it for? This little "prep for the season" info sheet and a collection of accessible videos is to help curlers (at any level), but specifically the club level get ready to step back on the ice.

What? Check out the PDF. All the words in burgundy are hyperlinks to either an informative blog post or a youtube video.

I wish you all the best this winter season. Stay safe, and good curling!!

Stephanie Thompson, (she/her)

New Awning - East Entrance

We are pleased to inform you that the old burgundy awning at the east entrance of the Club has been replaced. The new awning features a stylish dark green color, enhanced with elegant lettering and the Tam Heather crest.

We hope you appreciate the updated look and that it provides ample protection from the rain and snow.

We’re pleased to provide an update on the interlock repairs that took place over the summer. We’re happy to report that this area has now been fully replaced.

Curling Liaison Position Available at Sept 2024 AGM

At our June 27, 2024 Board of Directors meeting, John Wills, our current Curling Liaison, told the Board that he and his wife are planning on moving to London Ontario this summer, so he will be resigning from the Board effective at the next AGM.

We would like to thank John for his contributions to curling at the Tam Heather (several years on the Venerables’ Board of Directors including President and currently as the Curling Liaison at Tam). John we all wish you our very best and you will be missed.

John’s resignation leaves an unexpected vacancy on the Board of Directors.  If you are interested in becoming the new Curling Liaison Director for Tam, please contact Erwin Psotka (Secretary).

Tam had a great year last year with membership at an all time high and a strong year financially. But we can’t continue to grow without your input and your fresh ideas. Please consider volunteering to join the Tam Heather Board of Directors (BOD) as the new Curling Liaison.

For your information, the full Tam Board of Directors currently consists of:

  • President: David Muir
  • Vice President:  Don Richard
  • Treasurer: Helen Bigall, term expires, position available with one current candidate identified
  • Secretary: Erwin Psotka

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
