50th Anniversary Bonspiel Feedback & Photos

Hello All Tam Heather Members, 

The 50th Anniversary Bonspiel is now history. It will certainly go down in Tam Heather lore as yet another highly successful event. The strength of Tam is in its people. It takes a small army of managers, staff and volunteers to guide a club through 50 years, to be able to celebrate such a milestone, and do so successfully.

The originating Board had a vision; it is still being fulfilled 50 years on and we are all their beneficiaries today. We were much pleased to welcome the family of the founding Board President -- they joined us from Ottawa for the day to play and celebrate.

Tam Heather Curling is broadly inclusive. It was a thrill to have the enthusiastic participation of so many -- Juniors / Bantams / Venerables / Mixed and Staff alike. All in spirited and fun competition.

We were all winners, but Congratulations especially goes to the Olson team for their #1 Overall finish!

What would these events be without the seemingly effortless support of all of the amazing behind the scenes folks … planning, preparations, decorations, set-ups, take-downs, ice making, and of course Food and Beverage! Too many people to mention, but your great work doesn’t go unnoticed and is always much appreciated. 

THANKS to all of you --  the Organizers, Players and Staff!  We also had wonderful Sponsors and Prize Contributors  -- greatly appreciated

Needless to say, we must single out Carol and Chris Rhynas, our Emcees for the night, who kept us on track so effortlessly

Each participant received a keepsake 50^th Anniversary pin and 50-cent mint coin which will hopefully remind you of good memories of a great day at Tam. Your attendance allowed us to gift the Club with new wall spinners, handcrafted by one of our own members, and engraved with the 50^th Anniversary logo. They will serve us well for the next 50 years

Thank you everyone for sharing the day with us. The Junior / Bantam players are already looking forward to the 100^th celebration!

• Congratulations to your organizing committee for a successful event celebrating the 50-year Anniversary of the Tam. Our father, Bob Walker - whose vision began in 1971 after the Tam O'Shanter Fire of that same year, along with a group of very determined friends who all worked very hard to see the new club built. The fact that they managed to accomplish this in a couple of short years was no less than amazing. Our father would be absolutely delighted to see it today, still going strong. Many changes have occurred over the years, but the original basics are still there, 8 sheets for curling and 5 tennis courts. And the iconic fireplace…What a trip down memory lane! 
   
  We’re very happy We we’re able to participate in the event this past weekend. Although my brother and I didn’t know anyone there, (other than Luke) - we were there most specifically to honour that original founding group that we remember so fondly, and specifically our dad - and hope that somehow he knows that 50 years later, the fruits of their original labour of love have provided ongoing curling and tennis enjoyment for thousands and thousands of people over the past 50 years. 
   
  We wish the Tam Heather many more years of success, and remain very proud of the efforts of that original few that made it all possible. 1973 through to the early 90’s - It was quite an amazing time to be part of it all, to see the rinks and courts go in, to revel in the early celebrations throughout the years…and then…to come back all these years later to see the Tam providing so much joy to so many new members….we couldn’t be more delighted.
