The Scarborough Shooting Stars

Hello Tam Heather Members:

Attached is our schedule along with our flyer.  Here is the GoFevo link: https://www.gofevo.com/group/Tamheather

Here's a brief overview of our team and league. The Scarborough Shooting Stars are a professional basketball team in the CEBL (Canadian Elite Basketball League). The league has 10 teams spread out across Canada, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Brampton, Niagara, Ottawa, Montreal and of course Scarborough.

The season runs from late May to early August, with playoffs starting in August. We won the championship in 2023 and always have a competitive team. This season we're celebrating our 5th season in the CEBL. We also have plenty of local celebrities out to our games including Drake & Andre De Grasse. Raptors players often come out and support as well.

Our league is also very important for developing Canadian athletes. 2 Canadians are required on the court at all times, and there is a limit of 5 American players per team. A couple of seasons ago, we signed popular artist J. Cole to our team, which brought plenty of attention.

Let me know if you have any questions

Kind Regards,

The Heritage Bonspiel Recap

Good day to our many Tam Heather Heritage Bonspiel players and supporters.

On your behalf, the Heritage Bonspiel has taken pride in giving back to the community.

Together, and in close cooperation with the Police Department and Rotary Club, we supported a local Food Bank for several years. This year, in consultation with the same community service sources, we chose an equally worthy and needy recipient for your generosity..... a local Elementary School.

Willow Public School supports the local communities in such a way that it touches almost all of its 300 plus student families.  The staff and volunteers provide much needed meal supplements and clothing assistance to their students, most often children of ‘working poor' immigrant families. Staff serve healthy breakfast and  recess snacks, then again provide afternoon lunch and snack supplements. They are now extending the programme to include after school activities that include yet another snack.   Most of the children involved arrive daily, but undernourished, having had  no breakfast and little or no lunch. Their clothing needs are also supported : boots, coats, hats, gloves, scarves are the most common.

This programme is organized and actively run by the school team of administrators, teachers, and volunteers. Their Committee is hard working, hands on, enthusiastic and effective. This was very evident to us, The Heritage Committee, upon our visits to discuss the programme needs.  When asked, they quickly identified that their number one wish list need was a Refrigerator, necessary for fresh fruits vegetables and drinks.! Not only would this boost the quality of their healthy service but it would help bulk buying savings and reduce waste.

Ou Heritage team took on the challenge!

We competitively shopped and bought a quality Fridge-Freezer ,complete with a long term warranty. Once delivered, our Team revisited the school and officially presented the refrigerator together with a Cash donation for the Food stuffs to fill it!

This was all possible due to YOUR  generous donations! Whether you donated an item to the silent auction, or purchased an item, your support in doing so was simply over the top!  Please pat yourselves on the back for your part in giving back to the community in this way.

Enjoy some pictures below…

Lastly, after much debate, the Tam Heritage Committee is retiring and the Heritage Bonspiel will be necessarily suspended.  This Bonspiel has been going on for over 60 years and it is with much regret we ‘hang up our hats’.   We have all loved every minute of working on this event and are hopeful someone will take it over.   Please consider it, the payback is way beyond what you put into it.

If there is an interest, please reach out to Judi McDonald at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

You will not regret it!

New Information About our Annual General Meeting (AGM)

New Information About our Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for Monday September 28, 2026

As previously communicated to all members, at this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday September 28, 2026, there were three Board of Director positions coming up for election as their terms of office are coming to an end. Now, another Board member has indicated their plans to resign early from their current position and run for election for another Board position. Accordingly there will be elections for FOUR Board Positions at this AGM, namely:

  • Vice President
  • Secretary (NEW)
  • Tennis Liaison
  • Director at Large

The normal term for a director is three years, after which an election must be called for that position.  The incumbent may or may not choose to run again, or the incumbent may have reached their maximum term of six consecutive years on the BOD and thus is no longer eligible to run for re-election.  Another possibility is that a current Board member may choose to resign early from their current Board position and run for election for another available Board position.

If you are interested in any of the above FOUR Board positions or ANY Board position, please let us know by contacting David Muir, the Chair of the Nomination Committee and the current Past President (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

For your information, the full Tam Board of Directors currently consists of:

  • President: Erwin Psotka, term expires in 2028
  • Vice President: Don Richard, term expires this AGM
  • Treasurer: Sandra Gay, term expires in 2027
  • Secretary: Wayne Black, term expires in 2028
  • Curling Liaison: Nancy Killey, term expires in 2027
  • Tennis Liaison: Saravan Subramaniam, term expires this AGM
  • House: Neil Finlayson, term expires in 2028
  • Membership: Jackie Adams, term expires in 2027
  • Director at Large: Dan Lang, term expires this AGM

On behalf of your Tam Heather Board of Directors

President

Member Conduct Policies Announcement

Dear Tam Heather Curling and Tennis Members,

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the introduction of an updated set of member conduct policies aimed at fostering a respectful, inclusive and safe environment for everyone. The process in doing so included the review/update and expansion of the existing policies. The result of these efforts was the addition of new policies as well as updated policies for the existing code of conduct policy and the complaint resolution process.

These policies outline expectations regarding behaviour/conduct both on and off the tennis court and curling rink. This includes sportsmanship, mutual respect, member privacy, communication, and the responsible use of Club facilities.

All members are encouraged to review the policies and ensure compliance to help maintain a positive Club culture. The Conduct Policies booklet can be found on the Tam website under the Governance tab or by clicking on this link,

If you have any questions or require further clarification, do not hesitate to contact the Club office.

Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and supportive community.

Opportunity to Represent Bosnia & Herzegovina in International Curling

I hope this message finds you well.

My name is Lea Konforte, and I am reaching out as a fellow member of the Bosnian community here in Canada. I’m currently assisting with a search for a curler of Bosnian heritage who may be interested in representing Bosnia and Herzegovina in upcoming international competitions.

A Bosnian curler based named Mak Doric in Sweden is looking for a partner to join the Bosnian national representation at the international competitions.
To be eligible, the individual would need to hold (or be eligible for) a Bosnian passport.

We are hoping to connect with someone who:

  • Has curling experience (competitive level preferred)
  • Is interested in international play
  • Has Bosnian heritage and eligibility

If you have any members who may fit this profile, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share this message with them or point me in the right direction.

This is a unique opportunity to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina on the international stage, and we are hoping to find the right person within the Toronto curling community.

Thank you very much for your time and support.

Warm regards,
Lea Konforte

Manager's Spring Message 2026

Dear Tam Heather Curling and Tennis Members,

Well… just like that, another great season is in the books (seriously, where did that go?). As we shift gears toward summer, I want to give a big welcome to all of our new members. Whether you joined us on the ice this winter or are about to hit the courts, we’re so glad you’re part of the Tam Heather community.

To our Curlers—what a season! Thank you for bringing the energy, competition, and good spirit week in and week out. From big shots to “almost had it” moments (we’ve all been there), it’s the people and the atmosphere that make this place special. We hope you had a fantastic season and we’re already looking forward to seeing you back out there next year.

To our Tennis members—get ready, because summer at Tam is just around the corner! The courts are waiting, the rallies are coming, and yes… your serve will absolutely improve this year (no promises, but we believe in you).

On the curling side, we’ve got some exciting improvements lined up for next season. We’ll be installing two new heaters in the arena to help our ice team with controlled melts and—equally important—keep everyone a little warmer out there. We’re also adding new TV monitors at the far end and cameras at the home end to enhance the overall experience. Feel free to admire the upgrades… just not while your skip is calling your next shot. Pace of play still matters!

Facility upgrades are coming your way! We’ve got a brand-new audio-visual system in the upper lounge and out on the ice, which means we can now separate zones for announcements and even rock out with full Bluetooth capability. The new projector and drop-down screen will be a huge upgrade for all of our events and functions—goodbye blurry slides, hello cinematic glory!

On the roof front, we’ll be tackling some blistering areas around the arena perimeter. Think of it as a pre-emptive strike against any rogue leaks trying to crash the party on our precious curling ice. Because let’s face it… speed bumps are no fun for anyone.

At the end of the day, Tam Heather is about more than Curling rocks or Tennis rallies—it’s about community. It’s the laughs, the friendships, and the moments that keep people coming back year after year. If you’re new, don’t be shy—jump in, say hello, and make the most of it. The Tam Fam is a pretty great group to be part of.

A big thank you, as always, to our Board of Directors, our incredible Tam Team, and of course Damiano and Neil in the kitchen—keeping everyone well fed and happy. We couldn’t do it without you.

Enjoy the summer ahead, and we’ll see you on the courts soon—and back on the ice before you know it.

Jason Leneeuw - General Manager

TCA Youth Curling Interclub Summary

The final weekend of the Junior Interclub event pitted friends and fellow club curlers against one another.  Tam Heather 1 (Kitcher- Abigail, Lucas, Cayleigh and Charlotte) and Tam Heather 2 (Zoratto - John-Paul, Owen, Aerilyn and Ethan) competed in the second group on Saturday, March 28 at the Dixie Curling Club.  It was Abigail Kitcher who skipped her team to a come from behind win in the first draw of the day.  These same two teams battled it out again at lunch playing some new and popular board games such as “Poetry for Neanderthals and Incoherent Family”!  At the end of the day, the two teams placed a respectable 6th and 7th in the 16 team field with East York Curling Club winning the Interclub Team Championships this season.

We are very fortunate to have had the opportunity to compete in Interclub this year as the former coordinators stepped down.  Thanks to Adrienne Cunningham who stepped up as the main coordinator for this season.  It was an amazing event and offered such an incredible experience for our youth curlers.  For all the parents, it was very entertaining and was a pleasure to watch our kids grow and develop as people and competitors in the exciting sport of curling!

Thanks to Andi, Patrick and all the coaches who prepared our kids for these events and who developed their curling skills during the winter months.  It was amazing to see how much they have improved over the years!

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
