Another Curling Season Wraps Up

As the season winds down, it’s time to pack away our curling gear and start thinking about summer fun.

Before you tuck everything away, here are a few easy tips to help you get ready for the 2026/27 season:

  • Shoes: Give your slider a quick clean with a lint-free cloth. If you spot any scratches or chips, it might be worth replacing or even upgrading for a smoother, faster glide. Check your gripper shoe too. If it’s worn, torn or thinning consider replacing. Many suppliers can even refresh your toe coating over the summer.
  • Slip-on gripper: Take it off and check it inside and out. If it’s wearing down or shedding material, it may be time for a new one. If it’s still in good shape, a quick wash inside and out will ensure it's ready for the fall.
  • Broom head: Swapping in a new broom head now means one less thing to worry about when the season starts again.

If any of your gear is looking a little tired, summer is a great time to replace it. There are often many end-of-season deals out there. And if you’re updating your curling wardrobe, try to choose clothing that won’t shed fibers onto the ice.

Enjoy your summer! Registration for another fun-filled season opens in mid-July, so keep an eye on Tam emails for details.

We’ll see you back on the ice at Tam in October!

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
