Recovered Locker Room Benches

What do the following make?

  • 3 sessions
  • 6 hours
  • 11 volunteers
  • 1000 staples (+ fabric)

8 newly covered benches for the women’s and men’s change rooms!

Maybe you noticed but our benches were looking a bit tired.  The vinyl was cracking and flaking off.  Not to mention that when you put things on the benches they tended to slide onto the floor.  We decided that recovering would make them look better as well as be more serviceable.

Session 1:

  • Remove the old vinyl and staples
  • We chiseled off the old gum while we were at it!
  • Carol added some new screws to make the benches sturdier!

Session 2:

  • Cut, cover and staple the new fabric onto the benches.
  • Pay special attention to the corners
  • 5 benches completed!

Session 3

  • Complete the last 3 benches in record time
  • Return the benches to the change room
  • Congratulate each other on a job well done!

A little upholstery humour:

A man was shot nearly 200 times with an upholstery gun.  The good news is the doctors say he is now fully recovered.

Many thanks to our fabulous crew that included:

Carol Rhynas, Sandra Becker, Catherine Gray, Sue Sedor, Laurie Robinson, Anne Jackson,

Lynn Sartor, Susan Ainsley, Diane Kerr, Chris Kerr and Bev Styba

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
