Both Mike Harris and Richard Hart have other curling commitments that have come up on the day of the event and will no longer be able to play, however, their team will be playing with spares from Tam's Men's section.

Join us to cheer our Team TAM Canada as they challenge four teams from Scotland. The Strathcona Cup is the oldest curling bonspiel in the world (see Strathcona Cup Press Release). These games are free to watch as part of Tam Heather’s 50th Anniversary events open to members and guests. Please join us to witness the 150-year-old traditional ceremonies: the Broom Arch Welcome, the Parade of Players - Pipe to the ICE and Toast to the Piper, the Welcome address, and the “Stacking of the Brooms” break, and of course four great curling matches. Our Team TAM Canada teams are skipped by our very own Richard Hart, Tony Baker, Steve Hawkshaw, and Mike Atkin.

At our Tam Heather Board of Director’s meeting last night, the Tam Heather Board regretfully accepted the resignation of Dennis Welbanks as President. Dennis is stepping down due to personal reasons.

We would like to thank Dennis for all of his contributions to Tam Heather over the years including serving on the Board of Directors for the past 17 years as President. Dennis was also Chairman and Drawmaster of the Mixed Curling Committee for several years.

On an interim basis Dennis served as Club Manager for the 2014-15 season following the passing of Ross Oldham, and was instrumental in the hiring of Doug Miller and Jason Leneeuw as General Managers.

More recently in 2020-21, Dennis helped steer the Club and its policies through the pandemic. His contribution and wise council will be missed.

David Muir Elected President of the Tam Heather Board of Directors

In response to Dennis Welbanks’ resignation and as outlined in our Constitution/By-Laws Sec 5.19(b), it is the current BOD’s responsibility to nominate and elect replacement Board Members for any vacancies. At our January 11, 2023 Board meeting, the current Vice-President David Muir was nominated for the position of President and he accepted that nomination. The BOD, as empowered by the same Sec 5.19(b), then unanimously voted for David Muir to assume the responsibilities as President of the Tam Board of Directors until the next Annual General Meeting, tentatively scheduled for September 25, 2023.

With the now vacant Vice President position, the BOD decided to call for open nominations for this position from our Tam Heather membership.

If you would like to apply for the position of Vice President, Tam Heather Board of Directors, please contact the current Secretary of the Board, Erwin Psotka at This email address is being protected from spambots. Any persons seeking this position must be voted for and approved by the current BOD and in accordance with Sec 5.19(b) of the Constitution/By-Laws, the term of this Vice President position will expire at the next AGM.

Joining the Board now, may be the perfect opportunity to see what it is like, as we will soon be recruiting new members for the Board with terms of service starting September 2023.

Vienna BeersBEERS, VIENNA "DEE" DEMARRIS (nee SPENCE) Died peacefully, after a short stay in the hospital on December 23, 2022, in her 88th year. Dee was the loving wife of the late Charles Frederick for over 64 years. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children, Kathryn (Wayne) and the late Greg (Debbie).

She was a proud Granny to Megan, Colin (Cassie), Katie and Erin. Her passions were tennis and spending time with friends, made both on and off the court. She was a force to be reckoned with on the court. Off the court, all were welcome in the home she made with Freddie, especially to enjoy summers by the pool and the annual Boxing Day party. She loved music, dancing, and was happy if she found herself with a beach nearby.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Scarborough General Hospital for their care and compassion during her stay. We are consoled by knowing she's now reunited with Freddie and Greg.

A visitation will take place on Monday, January 2, 2022, from 4-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2022, at 2 p.m., with a visitation one hour prior. The visitation and funeral will be located at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre Pickering, 1057 Brock Rd., Pickering.

Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Please visit Dee's memorial page at etouch.ca for service details, online guestbook, and donations.

    Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
