Tennis play started Friday Oct 1. The first day of practice for curling is Monday Oct 4. Just so you don’t feel guilty being on the courts and on the ice knowing you haven’t yet paid your membership fees; Fear Not, we are now accepting payments.
The easiest way to pay is by logging onto the Tam website at www.tamheather.ca, just as you did to register. Once you log in, click on Registration menu item. Click on the appropriate purple icon; curling or tennis, whichever is appropriate. This will take you to the payment screen where you will be able to pay with your credit card.
You will notice that we are also offering a two (2) payment option on most memberships again this season, allowing you to pay 50% now and the remainder in the New Year. If you prefer to pay the full amount, that option is also available.
Payment can also still be made with debit, cheque or cash, but requires that you come into the office to do so.
Cheers,
Doug
You should have received an email yesterday (Tues Sept 28) or today (Wed Sept 29) from CurlON with your “QR” code.
If you are receiving this email, but did not receive a “QR” email from CurlON, please check your SPAM folder first in case it ended up there. If you still can’t find it, please let me know by emailing me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and we will investigate its absence further.
This QR code must be scanned on the tablet at the entrance to the clubhouse. At the east entrance, the tablet will be on the wall, just to your left as you enter. Where it will be located at the west entrance is still to be determined. This scanning is required to satisfy government mandated tracing requirements and must be done every time you enter the building. So, be sure to keep it handy, either on your phone if you always bring your phone with you when you play, or as a paper printout.
As mentioned in an earlier email, please be sure to bring both your QR code AND your Proof of Vaccination documentation/passport the first time you come to the Club, in order that we update your QR code with your vaccination status.
Cheers,
Doug
With the Sept 22 implementation in Ontario of a vaccine passport system for indoor settings, you will now be required to provide a Proof of Vaccination document together with appropriate personal identification before being allowed entry to Tam Heather; for both the tennis dome and the clubhouse/arena. Note that the final dose of any vaccine combination must have been taken at least 14 days prior to the date at which you enter the club.
This information will be reviewed by a Club staff member the first time you enter the club. Here’s how it will all work:
All registered members, except those tennis members who already received their QR code back on Feb 17, will receive a dedicated QR code from CurlON via email within the next week. You will receive an email from Tam Heather on the day that we request the QR code on your behalf in order that you know to expect it. On that same day, you will receive an email from CurlON with your QR code. The QR code can be saved to your smartphone or printed for scanning upon entry to the tennis dome or clubhouse/arena.
CurlON developed this touchless APP for member clubs to help them align to the Ontario Government Regulation 364/20 that required clubs to keep contact information for each person that enters their facility (similar to restaurants and bars). The APP manages the data in a similar fashion to a boarding pass for air travel. The only information maintained in this database as per legislation is your name, email address, and phone contact along with your gender as a statistical marker. No other personal information is gathered and all data is kept, as per regulation, for a total of thirty (30) days and then deleted. The data is kept in a secure server that is only accessible by two CurlON staff members when requested by a Health Official for contact tracing.
CurlON is dedicated to the safety of participants at all member clubs and this no-charge APP is one of the measures put in place to allow clubs to abide by the tracing Regulation and Proof of Vaccination mandate with minimal impact on the operation of the club.
Note to Tennis members: You will notice the distinct curling theme of the QR email. This APP was provided by the Ontario Curling Association for use by its member clubs; hence the curling references. But it will serve the same purpose for any sport or facility where pre-screening is required.
Upon entering the tennis dome or clubhouse/arena, you will need to read the posted COVID screening questions and, if able to answer No to all questions, scan your QR code from your phone or printed copy on the scanner at the doorway. If it is your first time entering the club, you will also be asked to present your Proof of Vaccination documents for viewing by the staff member manning the door. If you do not have your Proof of Vaccination documents, or if your documents do not fulfill the Ministry Vaccination requirements, you will not be allowed to enter. So please be sure to have the correct documentation with you the first time you visit the club.
If your documents are acceptable the staff member will update the tracing APP to say “YES”, the member has fulfilled the Ministry vaccination mandate. For each subsequent return visit, the APP will record them as a fully vaccinated and club confirmed participant.
If your documents were not acceptable, the APP will be updated with “NO”. and the APP will show a message of “Check-in Failed. Not vaccinated” and record this at each subsequent attempt to check in.
Staff members will continue to monitor the entrances until all members have provided the appropriate Proof of Vaccination.
This same process will be utilized by our weekly Rental leagues and clinics, and for any bonspiels/tournaments (if/when a decision is made to resume hosting such events).

Dated at Scarborough, Ontario this 16th day of September, 2021.
By Order of the Board of Directors.
Dennis Welbanks
President, Board of Directors
Tam Heather’s 2021 Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, September 27 at 7 p.m. Due to the current indoor gathering restrictions and for the safety of our members and staff, the meeting will be held virtually.
This year’s meeting will be held via ZOOM. All 2021-2022 registered members will receive an email with a link to the meeting during the week prior. This email will also provide links to the AGM package (i.e. Agenda, Minutes from the 2020 AGM, Financial Statements).
Given that this meeting is being held virtually, the Board would like to ask members in advance to provide any discussion items that they would like to have added to Monday’s agenda as new business. Many members may have the same question(s), so getting them added to the agenda beforehand helps ensure your item gets addressed. We only have 2 hours for this meeting (people have to go to work in the morning), so we only have a limited amount of time for each question. Getting your question in advance will allow the Board to work on an answer beforehand which should also help save time.
Wednesday Sept 15 is the deadline to register if you want play in one of the leagues this season. This is necessary to allow the Captains time to work on their schedules before the start of play in October. If you’ve already registered, WELL DONE!!! If you haven’t yet, time is running out.
Also, here is a link to our updated Tennis Safety Measures,
Cheers,
Doug
As we mentioned in a previous registration email, returning members will be given a 2 week priority period (from Aug 23 to Sept 7) in which to register and guarantee placement in their respective leagues. So time is running out.
Good news!!! Registration has only been open for 2 weeks and we’ve already exceeded the number of registrants from last season. Jason returns to work starting tomorrow as he and Luc start work on installing the curling ice.
Also, here is a link to our updated Curling Safety Measures,
Cheers,
Doug
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Wilf O’Connor on August 19 after a brief battle with cancer.
Wilf was a long-time member at Tam Heather, including serving on the Board as Treasurer. Our condolences go out to his wife, Ida, and the rest of Wilf’s family.
Additional details are available at
https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thestar/obituary.aspx?pid=199901531
A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church at 2234 Ellesmere Rd., Scarborough, on August 27th at 11:00 a.m.
It is with great sadness and regret that we inform you of the passing of Bill Lam. After a very long and courageous battle with cancer, Bill passed away on Saturday July 31, 2021. Bill was 63 years of age. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Paula, who supported him daily throughout his illness and his son, Jason, and daughter, Christine.
Bill very much enjoyed physical activities, and notwithstanding a one year sabbatical that he required for health treatments, he did not let his illness prevent from engaging in some of his favourite activities. He remained a committed attendee at the gym; played golf frequently in the warmer months – often with his son, Jason, and with members of Tam Heather; and, as we best knew him, a member and an active supporter of Tam Heather.
A long term member and true friend of Tam Heather, Bill served on the Men’s Committee serving as Draw Master for the Tuesday Night Rated competition. He also served on the Sunday Sinners Committee, organizing the Tag Draw each week.
As was Bill’s request, the funeral service was limited to family only. Bill’s family has requested that, for those who wish to remember Bill, donations be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

We hope you are having a safe and enjoyable summer!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been receiving more and more inquiries asking when we will start accepting registrations for the 2021-2022 winter tennis and curling season. They have come mostly from Tam members, but also from members of other clubs who have been displaced by their previous clubs’ closure or decision to no longer run a curling program, leaving them in need of a new home. We've heard from many members about what the Club's policy should be regarding vaccination verification requirements or "passports", and how that should extend to permitting or not permitting unvaccinated individuals from playing. The intent of this email is to clarify the Board's position on this.
Vaccinations offer a tremendous public health and safety benefit, particularly for those with pre-existing health conditions. As such, the Board strongly encourages all of our members to be vaccinated and have implemented a policy requiring all members who are eligible to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus to be fully vaccinated.
