gavelTam Heather’s 2021 Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday, September 27 at 7 p.m. Due to the current indoor gathering restrictions and for the safety of our members and staff, the meeting will be held virtually.

This year’s meeting will be held via ZOOM. All 2021-2022 registered members will receive an email with a link to the meeting during the week prior. This email will also provide links to the AGM package (i.e. Agenda, Minutes from the 2020 AGM, Financial Statements).

Given that this meeting is being held virtually, the Board would like to ask members in advance to provide any discussion items that they would like to have added to Monday’s agenda as new business. Many members may have the same question(s), so getting them added to the agenda beforehand helps ensure your item gets addressed. We only have 2 hours for this meeting (people have to go to work in the morning), so we only have a limited amount of time for each question. Getting your question in advance will allow the Board to work on an answer beforehand which should also help save time.

bill lamIt is with great sadness and regret that we inform you of the passing of Bill Lam. After a very long and courageous battle with cancer, Bill passed away on Saturday July 31, 2021. Bill was 63 years of age. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Paula, who supported him daily throughout his illness and his son, Jason, and daughter, Christine.

Bill very much enjoyed physical activities, and notwithstanding a one year sabbatical that he required for health treatments, he did not let his illness prevent from engaging in some of his favourite activities. He remained a committed attendee at the gym; played golf frequently in the warmer months – often with his son, Jason, and with members of Tam Heather; and, as we best knew him, a member and an active supporter of Tam Heather.

A long term member and true friend of Tam Heather, Bill served on the Men’s Committee serving as Draw Master for the Tuesday Night Rated competition. He also served on the Sunday Sinners Committee, organizing the Tag Draw each week.

As was Bill’s request, the funeral service was limited to family only. Bill’s family has requested that, for those who wish to remember Bill, donations be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Things to keep in mind:

Registration

  • Members interested in league play are requested to complete their registration no later than September 15 in order to give league convenors time to make up their schedules.
  • Registrations are usually not complete until fully paid. Due to the current situation with COVID-19, we will not be taking payment at this time. You will be notified when payment is due.
  • Members who rolled all or a portion of last year’s payment over to this season will see their credit appear when they reach Step 5, the Review step before submitting their registration.
  • A new Capital Levy ($25) has been added this season. This is being done to raise money for future Capital Improvements that are not the responsibility of the City (i.e. furniture)

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
