Hello Tam Heather Members,

After much manual snow shoveling and amazing team work, we are pleased to announce the return to play for all tennis activity starting Monday, March 6th at 7:00 a.m.

At this point in time, enough of the snow has been removed from the west side of the bubble and the bubble has almost returned to its original shape. There is a small amount of TLC still required, but there are currently no safety risks and we are ready to return to play- GAME ON!!

Special thanks to the Tam Heather maintenance team, ice team, tennis coaches and board member, Neil Finlayson- these people deserve a big round of applause!

We have filled all the volunteer spots for March 18th!!

The Toronto Blind Curling Club would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to help out. Those who have volunteered, will be contacted by the organizers with more details and information.

The west side of the tennis bubble has collapsed due to snow load.

Tennis is cancelled until further notice

We will update as the situation changes

The TBCC is hosting the 2023 Ontario Provincial Vision Impaired Curling Championship at Tam Heather Curling Club on March 18, 2023 and requires VOLUNTEERS.

TWO TYPES OF VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED:

B1 (Total Blind) Guides / Commentators: assist players from one end to the other, and describe the action of the game to the two B1's from each team. Full day participants preferred for this position (training will be provided). You must be at the club by 7:15am March 18th for training.

Designated Sweepers: to fill in for the B1 curlers who are unable to sweep. (Prefer strong sweepers, but all are welcome).

For the Tennis members that have registered for the upcoming season and have already paid their association fee, Tam will credit their accounts with the amount paid for to the OTA association fee.

Start and Stop of Play - Bell Reminder

A warning bell will ring at 5 minutes to the hour. Players must vacate their court promptly when the 2nd bell goes off on the hour, regardless of score.  Players who enter the bubble early are asked to remain on the bleachers until their start time and be respectful of the players on court 1.  In case a court is empty before or after the booked time, a five-minute grace period is permissible.  To enter or exit after the final bell, please do so without impacting / disrupting play on other courts.

2022 Policy Guidelines for Winter Tennis

2022 League Coordinator Rules and Responsibilities

Hello All Tam Heather Members,

Tam Heather would like to welcome all NEW Tennis members, as well as all of the returning members for the 2022/23 Winter season.

Back to Basics!

With Covid in the rearview mirror (for the most part), Tam is happy to be able to start the 2022 winter season without any restrictions in place. We will continue to follow the Public Health guidelines and Provincial guidance as we move forward. Please do what makes YOU comfortable! Some members may choose to continue masking and some members will not, both are acceptable, let’s be kind and respectful to each other in remembering this.

New This Season!

We are happy to announce that Tam has initiated a new volunteer run Tennis Committee this year.  This committee has seven members, who have already met once and will continue to meet on a monthly basis to discuss the overall needs within the Tam Tennis section.

Why?  The principles of the committee are:

  • to shape and support the tennis program at Tam Heather
  • to encourage and support members of all ages to play tennis
  • to ensure that the tennis section is run using existing resources
  • to work closely with the club’s General Manager on maintenance issues, marketing, fundraising, social events, feedback, and tennis program development

Who?  Tam Heather's New Tennis Committee Members:

Diane Lang - Tennis Liaison
Lionel Eli - Tennis Director
Lorne Devine
Deb Kolenousky
Semone Henville
April Luz
Annette Barjer

Please direct any questions or concerns directly to the Tennis Committee via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

A Few Reminders as Tennis returns for Winter Play:

1) The bell that rings at the 55 minute mark tells players to finish their play promptly, pick up balls and exit before the hour mark.  Oncoming players should not enter the courts until the ending players have finished and left.  The bell that rings at the hour mark signals the start play for the next group.

2) Divider nets closed is the default position.  Only if everyone involved agrees should the divider nets be opened between two courts.

3) Non-members are not allowed to play in any court booking unless they are signed in as guests.  A daytime tennis member who plays during evenings and weekends is required to pay the guest fee at those times.

4) Any outerwear should be hung on the coat racks located next to the bleachers. Outside shoes and boots need to be removed in the dome entryway prior to stepping out on the courts as we are trying to keep any salt and dirt off the play areas.

5) Please take a moment to make sure you know how to log in to both the members area of the website and to GameTime for court booking.  If you are having trouble, please send a message to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

6) The kitchen will open on Tuesday, October 11th and the operating hours are 8:30am-7:30pm Monday to Friday.  Tennis members are cordially invited to come to the clubhouse to use the locker rooms, lounge, and bar for beverages, snacks and meals.

Election Update for the Board of Directors

The Election Notice sent to all members on June 30th stated that nominations for the vacant Board of Directors’ positions would be accepted until Noon on August 31, 2022. As of that date and time, we had received three (3) nominations, one for each of the following positions:

President
Secretary
House

In addition, the Incumbent Director, Vice-President had agreed to stand for re-election.

Since we have only one nominee for each of these positions (including Vice-President), they are acclaimed and there will be no nominations for these positions from the floor at the AGM.

We did not receive any nominations for the position Director, Curling Liaison, therefore we will be accepting nominations for that position at the AGM.

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
