On-line Registration for the 2021 – 2022 Curling Season

On-line registration for the 2021 – 2022 curling season will open at

9:00AM on Monday August 23, 2021

Things to keep in mind:

Registration

  • Returning members will be given a 2 week priority period (from Aug 23 to Sept 7) in which to register and guarantee placement in their respective leagues. A minimum of 2 returning members must be registered to qualify as a returning team. After the 2 week priority period, new members who registered during the priority period will be given priority over returning members who register after the priority period.
  • For the 2021-22 season, a returning member is someone who was an active member in the 2019-20 or a new member who registered for the 2020-2021 season.
  • Registrations are usually not complete until fully paid. Due to the current situation with COVID-19, we will not be taking payment at this time. You will be notified when payment is due.
  • Members who rolled all or a portion of last year’s payment over to this season will see their credit appear when they reach Step 5, the Review step before submitting their registration.
  • A new Capital Levy ($25) has been added this season. This is being done to raise money for future Capital Improvements that are not the responsibility of the City (i.e. furniture).

Vaccination Policy:  As part of their on-line registration, everyone 12 years of age and over wishing to become a member of Tam Heather Curling & Tennis Club will be required to sign off on a declaration that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.  Accommodation will be considered for anyone with a Medical or Religious exemption from the COVID-19 vaccination.

Practice Ice:  Will be available Sat Oct 2 to Mon Oct 11 through the on-line Ice Booking feature on the website. This requirement to reserve your practice sheet is due to contact tracing requirements and capacity limitations that could be in effect at the start of the season. An extra weekend of practice has been added this season in light of the extended time you have been off the ice.

New Saturday evening Mixed Tag League:  This league will run on Saturday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Mixed curling, as everyone knows, is a very social activity. Our Mixed - Team Entry league, that plays Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons and evenings, is the biggest section in the club. But maybe you want to change it up a bit; play with different couples, or try out a different position, or even play against one another, or separately from one another. Or maybe you are just looking for something to do on a Saturday evening. This new league will employ a tag draw format. Weekly attendance is optional. Each curler attending places their named tag on the board over the position they wish to play that day. So couples can play together if they like, or apart. The drawmaster will then make up the teams from those present based on the preferences indicated on the tag board. Open to couples and individuals; it’s a great way to get an extra game in, play with a variety of people, and without having to worry about arranging for a spare if you can’t make it that week. This is a new league this season and will run from October to December. Popularity and ice availability will determine if it continues in the New Year.

New Mixed “Anything Goes” League:  This new league will run on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 to 4:00pm. The format is tag. So, sign up as an individual for the opportunity to play with new teammates and maybe try out a new position.

Rowan’s Law – Concussion Safety:  This Act, passed by the Ontario Government earlier this year, imposes various requirements on sports organizations in connection with concussion protocol and amateur sports. Members under 26 years of age, as well as their parent (for athletes under 18) are responsible for understanding and agreeing to the protocols detailed under this act.  Specifics, as it pertains to Tam Heather are provided on the 2021-2022 Membership signup (Step 4 – Agree to Club Waiver) page which we encourage you to read and agree to as part of your registration process.

Elevator installation:  Work is proceeding nicely on the new elevator (you should see the mess!!!), but the beginning of the season is fast approaching. The contractor has promised to do everything possible to not disrupt the start of our season, but we’ve heard that before. So we may have to do some last minute improvising if it turns out that the west entrance to the ice and to the building are not available right away. Fingers crossed that the work will be completed in time.

Little Rocks:  Registration for Little Rocks is being delayed as we continue to work on the question of how to safely run the program. Much more to come on this.

New Members Wanted:  The success of Tam is dependent on the addition of new members. The best way to recruit is through the existing membership and to this end we ask all members to encourage friends and family to try the sport and join Tam.

Encourage them to enrol in the Club’s Learn to Curl program which will run on Saturdays this season and finish in time for them to sign up for second draw of league play, Please help out by spreading the word!

See you soon.

Cheers,
Doug

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
