COVID-19 Vaccination Policy

We hope you are having a safe and enjoyable summer!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been receiving more and more inquiries asking when we will start accepting registrations for the 2021-2022 winter tennis and curling season. They have come mostly from Tam members, but also from members of other clubs who have been displaced by their previous clubs’ closure or decision to no longer run a curling program, leaving them in need of a new home. We've heard from many members about what the Club's policy should be regarding vaccination verification requirements or "passports", and how that should extend to permitting or not permitting unvaccinated individuals from playing. The intent of this email is to clarify the Board's position on this.

Vaccinations offer a tremendous public health and safety benefit, particularly for those with pre-existing health conditions. As such, the Board strongly encourages all of our members to be vaccinated and have implemented a policy requiring all members who are eligible to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus to be fully vaccinated.

This decision was not made lightly and was done after consultation with the Canadian and Ontario Curling Associations, legal advisors, and other sports clubs. Taking all this into consideration, the Board decided that this rule is necessary to protect the safety of members and staff, as well as the operational and financial safety of Tam.

We will be requiring that all members be fully vaccinated before the season begins, but it must be noted that we are not legally allowed to ask for proof of vaccination as doing so is a breach of privacy legislation and exposes the club to legal action. While the Board understands that it is the wish of some members that there be strict enforcement of a vaccination verification requirement, doing so at this time is not possible. The Board continues to monitor provincial and regional guidelines closely and, in the event things change sufficiently to allow us to ask for proof of immunization, we will do so.

It is also important to note that irrespective of policy, some measure of masking and social distancing protocols will still be necessary, depending upon prevailing provincial guidelines and what stage of reopening we are in. Currently, masking guidelines only allow players to remove their masks while on the ice or courts and while seated in the lounge areas eating or drinking. These measures, combined with numerous other safety measures and protocols, are in place to ensure the safety of members and staff while on Club premises.

We are in the process of updating the on-line registration process and accompanying waivers to reflect the new vaccination requirement. This should be done by the end of next week, maybe sooner, at which time we will send out another email to let members know that registration is open.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Club Management or the Board of Directors.

Enjoy the rest of the summer and we look forward to welcoming you back in the fall.
