Tennis Retro 1

Hello Tam Curlers,

Tam Heather Team of Laura Harris, Zoe Kirner, Ellen Bryan and Liam McMichael-Schuh with coach Alison Harris, attended the OCA Elementary School Curling Championship in Wingham from March 30-April 2.

There were 32 teams from all over the province competing for the Championship. Teams competed in four pools with top three teams in each pool getting the chance to move to playoff day on Sunday. There was also a skills and poster competition.

The Tam Team did a fantastic job in pool play, finishing first in the pool with a 4-0 record. This gave them a bye into Sunday instead of having an elimination game on Saturday night. Sunday morning's first game was a close one but ended up being their first and only loss of the tournament. The team won the C Division championship!

It was a weekend full of early mornings, interesting weather, flies on the ice but more importantly, great curling and new friends. It also inspired the group to work on more competitive curling in future seasons.

Congratulations to the team!

Tam Juniors are 2022-23 TCA Youth Interclub Champions!

The 2022-23 Toronto Curling Association (TCA) Youth Interclub league consisted of 16 teams from throughout the GTA. Organized by TCA Youth Director Julie Hastings, an Interclub six draws/games bonspiel was held this season at Tam Heather (Dec 10), High Park (Jan 21) and Dixie (Mar 25). Three Tam teams participated, with Team Turcotte in 3rd place, Team Sone in 10th place and Team Glauner in 15th place heading into the finals at Dixie. After some wonderful shots and a few misses, Team Turcotte won both of their games and came out on top with a draw to the button for the win in the main event final! Team Sone also won both of their games and the 3rd event final! Team Glauner was 1 and 1 and the consolation winner in the 4th event final; their Dixie games were skipped by Jason Sone because Declan Glauner could not attend. Special thanks to Julie for running this great event! And CONGRATULATIONS to all the Tam bantam and junior teams on their incredible achievements!!

Attention Mixed Curlers,

As we continue with plans for our Mixed Closing, we need to have an idea of numbers.

To date, only 10 teams have signed up which unfortunately does not give us enough teams for a closing spiel.  If your team is planning to play in the closing, would you please send in your application and entry fee as soon as possible.  If your whole team cannot play, but you would like to play, there may be another team in the same position, and we could get you together.

Please let us know ASAP so that we can decide on how to proceed.

Thank you,

The Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling and Princess Auto are running a challenge within Toronto Curling Association clubs as to who can sell the most tickets for the 2023 Princess Auto Players’ Championship.

The top 4 clubs (one from each membership grouping, based on size) with the most ticket sales will be given the opportunity to play one of their club finals on Grand Slam ice at Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto following the Friday night draw of the 2023 Princess Auto Players’ Championship!  Each week for the next four weeks, standings will be updated weekly.  If our club wins – we will be able to select any game, whether a club final or rematch of a final to play on the Grand Slam ice - Tam teams to be determined. Winners will be announced Monday, April 3rd.

Calling on our Tam Fam to purchase tickets for this event and possibly win the opportunity to have one of our Club Championship games played on the Pinty's Grand Slam ice at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Eric Downer Stick FUNspiel

Thank you and Congratulations to the 41 curlers that took part in the Eric Downer Stick FUNspiel on Monday, March 6, 2023. By all accounts the participants had a great time and found using a stick to be both challenging and a lot of fun. The Chez Damiano, Ninth End Bar, and Tam Pro Shop Draw Prize Coupons that 26 of the 41 curlers won have already been used by some of the winners. A reminder that coupons are good until the end of this curling season. A new option of curlers sharing a position has now been used by some of our players who would rather play one 8 end game. To do this you just find another player who plays the same position, sign up in one box on the signup sheet and one plays the early game, has lunch, and one has lunch and plays the late game. The cash prize is then split between the 2 curlers.

Congratulations goes to the 2023 Eric Downer Stick Funspiel Championship TEAM HILLS with team members Don Hills, Ray Cockburn, Doug Best and Steve Rosen. Their team photo is posted on the tagboard and a shield has been engraved and put on the trophy in our Venerables trophy case.

Venerables Memorial Bonspiel

Our next Venerables Bonspiel will be the Memorial Bonspiel which will take place on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. This Bonspiel is in memory of all our Venerables Curling Club members who have passed away over the years. A special ceremony will be held to honour those who have passed away since our last Memorial Bonspiel.

At this Bonspiel your new Venerables Board of Directors for 2023 - 2024 will be introduced.

The Bonspiel will cost $25.00 per person and includes coffee, muffins, two 8 end games, lunch, cash prizes and a trophy presentation to the winning team. The sign up sheets for this Bonspiel will be put up on the tagboard from Tuesday, March 21st to Friday, March 31st. Don't forget you can sign up together with another curler if you would prefer to curl one game vs two games.

One last point is that we as a committee are always looking for your feedback, suggestions, and comments in an effort to make your Bonspiels reflect your needs and wants. All feedback from you as members will be discussed by our committee and you will receive a response.

Hope to see everyone at the upcoming Bonspiels!

Club Information

Tam Heather, or the “Tam” as we call it, is an active friendly club located in the Morningside and 401 community of Scarborough. Tam Heather opened in 1973 as a curling club with eight sheets of ice, then two years later in 1975, the club expanded by adding five tennis courts, three of which were covered in the winter with a bubble. Thirty four years later, in 2009, a four court year-round covered structure was built.
